About ME

Before I began my therapist training I volunteered for a domestic violence helpline and then became a Samaritan. I learned so much from the brave people who would ring in to talk when they were feeling at their most desperate.

Then during my training I worked for a low-cost counselling charity where I gained experience dealing with a variety of issues from historical child abuse, to working with bereavement , addiction and eating disorders.  I also worked for the charity, Mosac (now called We Stand) working therapeutically with parents whose children have experienced child sexual abuse. Doing this work has enabled me to work at depth with parents dealing with many difficult issues including trauma, self-harm and suicidal ideation.

Throughout my career I have gained much experience of parenting children of all ages; navigating relationships and just dealing with the ups and downs of life. All of which helps me to empathise and understand many of the challenges and difficulties my clients may be experiencing.

Most recently I have identified a growing need for support in parents of young adults. We are experiencing an explosion of mental health issues, from anxiety and depression to diagnoses of adhd and autism, among our young people but very little is heard about the struggles of their parents  just trying to cope.

So from September 2025 I will be running small therapeutic groups for such parents which will offer a safe, confidential and supportive environment where parents can off-load and share the difficulties they are facing. For more information, email me at tinanewnhamtherapy@gmail.com
